Coast Guard Suspends Search For "Possible" Missing Kayaker

us coast guard helicopter Edgewater, FL-Update: The USCG suspended the search last night for an unconfirmed missing kayaker after the empty kayak was found in Edgewater. At the time the search was suspended there had been no reports of anyone missing or overdue. Earlier reporting follows: The Coast Guard and search crews from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are looking for a possible person in the water. A report was received at the Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville command center from a Good Samaritan at about 12:35 P.M. on Tuesday. The report stated that a 15-foot red kayak holding personal equipment including a pair of shoes, a bait bucket, cigarette butts, and a water cooler was drifting in the Intracoastal Waterway The Coast Guard has launched crews aboard a 24-foot small boat from Coast Guard Station Ponce de Leon Inlet and a crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater was also launched to search.
