Charges Pending Against NSB Man In Fatal Traffic Accident

Paisley, FL - One person is dead, one is in critical condition and two other people suffered minor injuries in a traffic accident on CR-42 near Paisley. Florida Highway Patrol reports that the pickup truck driven by 35-year-old Joseph Ferguson of New Smyrna Beach was headed eastbound this morning (May 17) on CR-42 when the truck drifted into the westbound lanes. Ferguson received serious injuries in the crash.

The accident happened around 7:35 a.m. Three vehicles were traveling in the westbound lanes of CR-42 when Ferguson's vehicle traveled over hitting the first vehicle and the trailer it was pulling on the left side. The trailer struck a power pole, knocking it over. The second westbound vehicle took evasive action, leaving the roadway and ending up in a ditch.

The third vehicle was hit head-on by Ferguson's truck, killing the male passenger. He is not being identified pending notification of next of kin. The 71-year-old male driver is from Paisley. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

FHP is investigating and charges are pending against Ferguson.
