CDC: Flu Shots Recommended Before Halloween

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - With flu season just around the corner the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) is suggesting that it's time to get a flu shot before Halloween.

With that suggestion in mind, the Department of Health in Volusia County is offering flu vaccines from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all of their locations, Monday through Friday.

Their locations include:

  • 1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach
  • 775 Harley Strickland Boulevard, Orange City
  • 717 West Canal Street, New Symrna Beach

Appointments are not needed for flu shots and it's recommended that residents get the vaccine before the flu begins spreading in the community.

However, if you are not able to get vaccinated before Halloween, DOH-Volusia says that getting vaccinated later can still be beneficial.

They will offer flu vaccination through the winter since seasonal flu can continue through late spring.

Annual flu shots are recommended for everything, especially people at high risk for complications from the flu, including:

  • People 65 and over
  • Pregnant women
  • Infants over six months
  • People with weakened immune systems or longterm health problems (asthma, diabetes, kidney disease)

For more information on getting vaccinated, log onto the county health department's website, or you can call 386-274-0509 and select option 1.
