Volusia County, FL-Changes are coming up after winter break for public school students who ride the bus in East Volusia. Volusia County Schools spokeswoman Nancy Wait says pick up and drop off times are changing Monday, January 9. The changes affect students at 35 schools. Students who ride the bus may have new route numbers, too. Times may be 15 minutes earlier or later. Wait says bus stop locations will not change. Wait says one of the big things that happened to make this necessary is when students from Campbell Middle School were offered "Opportunity Scholarships" last August to attend Henson or Ormond Beach Middle. That, in turn, changed bus routes and school officials didn't have enough time before the start of the new school year to make whole scale changes. Wait says school officials thought they could get through the year without making big changes, but there were just too many buses that were overcrowded and/or late. Wait says doing it mid-year made sense to get everything "back in order". Parents have been notified by phone December 9 and students affected will get a post card after the winter break telling them the details. Parents can also check the Volusia parent portal or call transporation at 386-258-4677 ext 50516 or 50546.   2016 Southern Stone Communications Copyright
