Burglary Suspect Who Fled From Squad Car Caught

Sanford, FL - She managed to escape from Volusia County deputies over the weekend after being handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car.

Now a 43-year-old woman is back in custody on burglary charges out of Volusia and Putnam counties.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says Amie Tyson was found at her grandmother's house in Sanford last night (October 8th) and arrested there by city police.

"She was taken into custody without incident," stated VCSO spokesperson Andrew Gant.

Tyson and a 50-year-old man were initially found by VCSO Saturday night along Barton Street in Seville, but Tyson made her escape after both were placed in separate squad cars.

Deputies believe she managed to slip out of her handcuffs and then the vehicle before taking off on foot, sparking a search with bloodhounds and Air One, the VCSO helicopter.

A Code Red message was also placed by VCSO to residents in the immediate area where she escaped.

Volusia County Jail records show Tyson has been booked there five times since July 2005, including most recently last September 23rd on conspiracy to commit burglary and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
