Brothers Arrested For Stealing Items In North DeLand

DeLand, FL - Two brothers have been arrested by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office on burglary charges after detectives say they were caught trying to sell stolen equipment.

37-year-old Mark Herring (left) and 30-year-old John Herring (right) were booked at Volusia County Jail yesterday (September 27th) on charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft and dealing in stolen property. Mark is also facing an additional charge of giving false information to a second-hand dealer.

VCSO spokesperson Andrew Gant says it looks like the Herring brothers were driving around neighborhoods in north DeLand looking for easy opportunities to steal and sell valuable items, particularly the Brandywine area.

"Detectives have identified additional property they believe was stolen, and they’re continuing to work on identifying the owners and additional theft victims," Gant added.

The investigation started when a homeowner on Saratoga Lane reported that someone had stolen a generator.

Gant says it looks like the Herrings were trying to find homes with open garages and taking whatever was inside.

"The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is asking area residents to check their homes and garages for missing property," Gant noted. "Anyone who believes they may be a victim, or anyone who has additional information, is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 386-248-1777.

This is the first time the Herrings have been booked at VCJ, according to jail records.

Mark is currently held on $12,500 bond, while John is held on $10,000 bond.
