Breast Milk Ad Stirs Up NSB Commission Race

Posted

UPDATE (08-15-18): Redmond says the ad wasn't one he approved and that he has no idea how it got onto his page.

Earlier reporting below.

New Smyrna Beach, FL - The race for a city commission seat in New Smyrna Beach gets heated up by a Facebook advertisement saying one of the candidates has "inferior genes" that she's possibly passing along to other families through a breast milk donation.

John Redmond - the Zone 1 candidate whose campaign allegedly sponsored that ad against opponent Jessica Realin earlier this week - has since shut down his Facebook page.

The actual ad in question is posted below, edited only to remove the names of Realin's children.

A Change.org petition has since sprung up demanding that Redmond get out of the race.

Realin has also gone on the offensive on Facebook, claiming that Redmond was deleting replies on his now-deleted page from people who weren't supporting him and that he was posting inaccurate information about her stance on development in the city.

When reached by phone, Realin says Redmond left her a voicemail earlier today (August 15th) apologizing for what happened and that he was "disgusted" by the ad, indicating that his account may have been hacked.

WNDB News has reached out to Redmond for comment. We'll update this article if he gets back to us.
