Daytona Beach, FL - An 8-year-old boy in Daytona Beach suffered severe injuries after he was riding an electric scooter and was hit by a teenage girl on a dirt bike on Christmas Day. The boy and a friend were riding electric scooters at around 4:51 PM on Monday, according to Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD). They were traveling southbound on Hudson St. when a 17-year-old girl was also riding a dirt bike southbound on Hudson St. and struck the back of the 8-year-old's scooter. The boy was somersaulted into the air as a result of the impact, and he fell face-down onto the street. The 17-year-old was propelled over the handlebars of the dirt bike. The boy was rendered unconscious, bleeding from his nose and ear, and the girl was left with abrasions on her face, arms, and legs. The boy was airlifted from Halifax Health to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando due to the severity of his injuries. He suffered a fractured skull and a brain bleed, DBPD says. The teenage girl had left the scene of the crash before police arrived, but she then returned to the scene. A witness told police that the girl was traveling at a high rate of speed when she struck the boy's electric scooter. The crash is still under investigation.
