Daytona Beach, FL - After an officer was injured trying to arrest a spring breaker on Wednesday, County Beach Safety has asked the Volusia County Sheriff's Office to help with crowd control and alcohol violations.

According to Beach Safety Captain Tammy Marris, an officer was hurt while attempting to make an arrest. "The subject was not cooperative, he was resistant, he tried to run away, " said Marris. "There was a brief scuffle and one of our officers dislocated his shoulder."

The decision in Panama City to ban alcohol on beaches appears to be pumping up the biggest college Spring Break beach crowds here in years and that has meant big numbers of alcohol violations. County Beach Safety Captain Tammy Marris says officers made approximately 115 arrests so far this spring break. Marris says the spring-breakers "apparently didn't know we don't allow alcohol on the beach here," but it is an arrestable offence.

VCSO has sent officers to the core areas of Daytona Beach to help Beach Safety out with "crowd control and alcohol violations."

Marris says the crowds here are the biggest she can remember in years and says the beach is left trashed every morning.

Marris says lifeguards have also made numerous rescues just about every day recently.
