Beach Soccer Comes To Daytona Beach This Summer

Daytona Beach, FL - Get ready for some soccer on the beach! The Major Beach Soccer Qualifying Tournament returns to Daytona Beach this Father's Day Weekend, June 17th-18th.

The tournament caters to both youth and adults, offering 14 divisions, including co-ed. Beach soccer is comprised of two teams of five, and is played on small-sided fields, 30 by 40 yards.

Beach Soccer is unique because it is more difficult to roll the ball on the sand, so players must incorporate a variety of tricks as the game goes on. It has roots in Brazil and was sanctioned by FIFA in 1992.

Daytona Beach is one of four sites to participate in the tournament, including Clearwater Beach, Cocoa Beach, and Coquina Beach. The tournament is in its 18th season and is organized by Major Beach Soccer, which has been operating the Florida series for close to 30 years.

Lori Campbell Baker, Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau executive director, says, "Our 23-mile long beach offers such a great venue for family-friendly sporting events. It should be a lot fun for participants and spectators.”

Qualifying teams will get to compete in the Major Beach Soccer National Championships in December.
