Daytona Beach, FL-Beach Safety officers say an 18-year-old local man was rescued from the surf today by a 16-year-old girl from Clermont. Captain Aaron Jenkins says it happened in an unguarded area when the girl saw the man struggling in the surf. Witness accounts and the teenager said the man was in a rip current and trying to yell for help as his head kept going underwater. He was reportedly waving his arms and that's what got the teen's attention. She was able to swim to him and pulled his head above water. He was helped to short and bystanders called Beach Safety. The man was treated and transported to Bert Fish as a precaution. Jenkins says the teen and her parents were contacted so she can be recognized for the rescue.
