Audio Sample Ballot Now Available In Volusia County

DeLand, FL - Registered voters in Volusia with a visual or print impairment now have some extra help in choosing a candidate. The "audio sample ballot" is now available for the upcoming primary election on August 28th. Volusia Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis says her department teamed up with the county's Information Technology Division to create the audio version of the sample ballot which can be heard through a dedicated phone line: 386-254-4688. "It's specific to where the person lives and, of course, in a primary, what party they're registered as," Lewis added. The recording tells listeners what candidates and races are on the ballot, including any pertinent county and state amendments. "We wanted all voters to have an opportunity to study the races and issues they may be voting on," Lewis noted. "It also gives independence to someone who may have a visual/print impairment.” This service initially debuted in Volusia during the 2016 presidential election.
