Ormond Beach, FL - An armed suicidal man who barricaded himself inside an Ormond Beach home for nearly five hours was taken into protective custody on Wednesday night.

It was around 2:07 PM on February 7th when the Ormond Beach Police Department was notified of a woman heading to 279 Roosevelt Ave. to stop her boyfriend from committing suicide. When officers got to the scene they saw the woman forced her way into the home.

A crisis negotiator established a dialogue with both the suicidal man and his girlfriend, who said she wouldn't leave the house because she was afraid her boyfriend would kill himself. The man was seen carrying a shotgun but didn't threaten to shoot anyone other than himself.

It was around 6:10 PM when the woman was persuaded to come out. When they saw that she was unharmed, officers began trying to convince the man to come out. At 7:03 PM, he came out and was taken into protective custody. He was brought to the hospital for evaluation.
