Edgewater, FL - A house fire caused about $20,000 worth of damage to the home of an Edgewater family on Wednesday, according to the Edgewater Fire Department. At 11:56 AM, the Edgewater Fire Department arrived at the scene of the fire in the 3100 block of Vista Palm Dr. in Edgewater. During the fire, there was at least one adult and two dogs in the home. The fire was extinguished approximately eight minutes later. The City of Edgewater Fire Marshal determined that the fire was an accident and that the blaze began in the kitchen. All of the residents and animals in the home were able to get out of the home safely. Three adults and two children live there, according to the fire department. "There were no injuries reported to the civilians or the firefighters, although there was extensive damage to the house, so the Red Cross has been called to assist the family," says Jill Danigel, Public Relations and Special Events Coordinator for the City of Edgewater. Danigel says that typically, in cases like these, the Red Cross can help with short-term needs like clothing, lodging, and food until insurance or other assistance can be provided.
