Absconded Volusia Sexual Predator Arrested

Lake Placid, FL - A sexual predator who disappeared from Volusia County ends up getting caught near Sebring, Florida.

33-year-old Anthony Cantrell was sentenced to 15 years in prison back in 2006, charged with two counts of molesting underaged children.

Following his release in February of 2018, Cantrell was made to wear an ankle monitor.

Back in August of 2018, Volusia County Sheriff's Office reported that Cantrell had removed his ankle monitor before absconding from the county.

Then, just yesterday (February 6th), deputies with Highlands County Sheriff's Office learned that Cantrell was living at a home in Lake Placid.

When deputies arrived at the home, Cantrell ran out of the back door and was soon chased down by authorities.

Cantrell was booked and processed into the Highlands County Jail, charged with failing to provide location information. HCSO says Cantrell will also be facing charges in Volusia County for absconding.

There is no information yet on when Cantrell will be extradited back to Volusia County.
