Abnormally Dry Conditions Prompt Palm Coast To Conserve Water

Posted

Palm Coast, FL – Flagler County, as well as several other north-central Florida counties, are experiencing an unusually low amount of rain which has caused renewed interest in conserving water.

The St. Johns River Water Management District put a Water Shortage Warning Order into place to combat extremely dry conditions. Palm Coast already has water conservation rules in place, but they want to remind citizens and business owners of them.

“April is Water Conservation Month in Florida, but it’s important for all of us to save water year-round, especially in times of low rainfall and low water conditions,” says Richard Adams, the Palm Coast Utility Director. “Water is a precious natural resource – a commodity that cannot be taken for granted. Let’s all do our part to save water wherever we can.”

Current rules in Palm Coast allow residents and businesses to water lawns twice a week, but not during the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM. Odd-numbered home addresses can water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, even-numbered home addresses on Thursdays and Sundays, and business addresses on Tuesdays and Fridays.

These rules only apply to those using both private and public pumps, wells, and water utility.

The City of Palm Coast also provided some tips to conserve water (and save money) such as:

  • Showering rather than bathing
  • Washing dishes with a dishwasher
  • Checking for leaks regularly
  • Checking toilets to see if they are running and limiting flushes
  • Reducing energy consumption
  • Turning off faucets when not in use
  • Washing clothes in full loads
  • Landscaping with plants that need little water
  • Covering pools
  • Washing the car without a hose
