AAA: September Gas Prices Highest In Four Years

Daytona Beach, FL - Wallets and bank accounts aren't going to like the news that gas prices for September were the highest they've been since 2014.

The newest report from AAA shows the state average jumped 10 cents since last week, landing at $2.82 per gallon of regular unleaded. However, the current average remains 10 cents less than this year's high established during Memorial Day weekend.

"Concerns about how sanctions against Iranian crude will impact global oil supply began to weigh on the market last week," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. "Crude oil prices climbed and dragged gasoline prices higher as a result. The $5 per barrel shift in crude can signal a 25 cent hike at the pump."

Jenkins also said that some alleviation should be on the way with low seasonal gasoline demand and that a cheaper-to-produce winter-blend gasoline should offset some of the upward pressure.

The wallets of Volusia and Flagler drivers could feel the hit too.

Drivers in Volusia are currently seeing an average price of $2.79 per gallon of regular unleaded, 7 cents more than last week.

Flagler drivers are also seeing an average of $2.79 per gallon of regular unleaded, but only 4 cents higher than last week's average of $2.75.
