Florida - According to AAA, December gas prices continue to be the lowest prices seen at the pump in five weeks. On Sunday, the average gas price in Florida was $2.41, three cents down from last week. Current gas prices are 12 cents lower than last month, but 19 cents higher than the same time in 2016. The most expensive gas in Florida can be found in West Palm Beach at $2.54, Miami at $2.52, and Naples at $2.50. The cheapest gas can be found in Jacksonville at $2.34, Orlando at $2.34, and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater at $2.34. The current gas average in the Daytona Beach area is $2.44. The lowest average gas price in Florida was recorded at $2.13 on July 17. "Seasonal trends like reduced gasoline demand and increased fuel supply are allowing pump prices to keep moving lower," said AAA spokesman, Mark Jenkins. "The first half of December is normally characterized by weak demand, as cold weather and shorter days cause Americans to drive less. Look for another week of declines as refineries continue to produce gasoline at a much higher rate than what is being consumed." AAA believes the low gas prices are the result of an increase in the availability of gasoline and the low demand of the season. Since last week, 6.78 million barrels of gasoline were added to the gasoline inventory. Crude oil production is also the highest its been since 1971. AAA predicts these factors will lead to the long-term decline of barrel prices.
