Florida - Gas prices have risen for 11 days in a row, up 15 cents in that period, as Labor Day weekend approaches.
The average price for a gallon of regular self-serve unleaded in FL is up 14 cents over last week and 13 cents over last month - making the current state average of $2.23 (as of Sunday, August 28, 2016) the highest price in the past 50 days. The national average is $2.21 as of Sunday.
"Gas prices are responding to upward pressure from higher oil prices, refinery issues, and the threat of tropical weather moving into the Gulf of Mexico," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. "Fuel prices are likely to remain relatively volatile this week, but that's unlikely to be a major deterrent for travelers heading into Labor Day weekend."
According to AAA, Labor Day is the 3rd-most traveled summer holiday. On average, 30.3 million Americans went on a road trip over the past two Labor Day weekends.
On Labor Day of 2015, a gallon of regular self-serve unleaded cost $2.29 in FL. If prices stay below that number, this will be the lowest gas prices have been on Labor Day since 2004.
To keep things in perspective, prices are 9 cents lower than they were this time last year, and we're paying $1.14 less than we were in 2014.
