AAA Expects Gas Prices In Florida To Reach Record Low For The Year Soon

Florida - According to AAA, Gas prices in Florida are dipping into the lowest prices of this year.

On Sunday, State gas prices were, on average, $2.27, down 6 cents from the prior week and 3 cents less than the same time in 2016. In fact, gas has been declining for 15 days in a row, decreasing 10 cents since June 3. AAA ranks Florida at #5 on the list of states with the largest weekly decline in price.

In the next couple of days, AAA expects gas prices to decline further and set a record low for the year. The lowest gas so far in 2017 was back on March 20 at $2.26 and the highest was on April 21 at $2.47. If gas goes down past $2,26, it will be the cheapest gas in the State since December 2016.

Summer gas prices are anticipated to rival summer gas prices from 2016 which averaged $2.19 from June 1 to August 31 in Florida.

The cheapest gas in the State currently is in Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater at $2.21, Orlando at $2.22 and Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice at $2.24. The priciest gas in the State is in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton at $2.37, Miami at $2.33 and Fort Lauderdale at $2.32.

Gas in Daytona Beach is currently at $2.24. For gas averages in other Florida cities, visit here.

"The plunge at the pump comes as oil prices took a pounding for the third week in a row," says AAA - The Auto Club Group spokesman, Mark Jenkins. "Markets moved lower after another round of supply data showing high U.S. and global refinery production. American motorists are the big winners here, as they fill their tanks for a summer road trip. These low gas prices should stick around for a while until oil prices change course."

According to AAA, the drop in crude value could plunge prices further, potentially towards a 17.5 cent discount, but storms in the Atlantic, if they become major, could drive prices back up.
