AAA Expects Gas Prices In Florida To Increase By Memorial Day Weekend

Posted
Florida – After a month of declining gas prices, AAA – The Auto Club Group, expects gas to become more expensive heading towards Memorial Day Weekend. In the last 30 days, gas prices in Florida went down 16 cents, decreasing 2 cents in the last week. The average for the state of Florida is $2.305, 5 cents less than the national average and 10 cents more expensive than this time last year. It is 35 cents cheaper than Memorial Day in 2015 where gas cost $2.66. "Florida gas prices moved lower last week, but the rate of decline slowed to just fractions of a penny per day," says spokesman for AAA - The Auto Club Group, Mark Jenkins. "After declining for a full month, the pump price plunge seems to be fizzling out, primarily due to rising demand and another week of declining crude inventories." The average gas price in Daytona Beach is $2.283. For gas prices in other Florida cities, go here. The cheapest gas in the State is in Orlando at $2.24, Tampa at $2.24 and Jacksonville at $2.26. The most expensive gas in the state is in West Palm Beach and Boca Raton at $2.42, Miami at $2.37 and Fort Lauderdale at $2.36.

This Memorial Day weekend is also expected to be the busiest the holiday has been in 10 years. For more information on Memorial Day weekend travel, see our earlier reporting here. "Despite gas prices being slightly higher than last year, AAA expects the most-traveled Memorial Day in more than a decade," says Jenkins. "Pump prices could face upward pressure by the end of the week, depending on the outcome of an OPEC meeting on Thursday. If prices do surge, it is unlikely they would exceed 10 cents by the holiday.” Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
