AAA: Expect Big Jump In Gas Prices This Week

Daytona Beach, FL - Expect local gasoline prices to start shooting up again very soon thanks to a drop in supply worldwide.

AAA Florida is predicting up to a 10-cent jump per gallon this week statewide after prices stayed flat last week throughout the Daytona Beach metro area, hovering between $2.61 and $2.62.

Spokesperson Mark Jenkins says that prediction is based on crude oil and wholesale gasoline prices rising last week.

"Both planned and unplanned refinery maintenance, rising demand and the switch to summer gasoline continue to contribute to the seasonal springtime jump at the pump," Jenkins added. "Based on current conditions, gas prices will likely peak sometime between Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day weekend."

Volusia County's current average for a gallon of regular gas is $2.60 cents, according to AAA. Flagler has it a cent higher at $2.61, which is a cent below Florida's average of $2.62 and two cents below the nationwide average of $2.63.

The current state average is nearly 30 cents more than a month ago and seven cents higher than this time last year, per AAA.

Florida's average for a gallon of regular gas has gone up 46 cents since the calendar turned to 2019, putting it 16th highest currently among all states.

West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.76), Miami ($2.70) and Fort Lauderdale ($2.69) have the highest prices by metro area, while Jacksonville ($2.56), Orlando ($2.56) and Punta Gorda ($2.57) have the lowest.
