AAA: Daytona Gas Prices Up 14 Cents In A Week

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Gasoline prices surge across the country - including the Daytona Beach metro area - because of a combination of rising demand and falling supply.

That's what AAA says about the average price for a gallon of regular going up 14 cents locally in the past week. It's now at $2.60 compared to $2.46 last Monday (March 11th), according to AAA statistics.

At the county level, Volusia and Flagler's regular gas average also sits at $2.60, which is higher than most other parts of Florida. Regionally, the highest prices are in Southeast Florida as well as in Levy, Jefferson and Marion counties, per AAA.

Spokesperson Mark Jenkins tells us Florida's statewide average shot up 15 cents in the past week to $2.62, the highest it's been so far this year and the 10th current highest for all states.

"Although it appears the state average is leveling out for now, the springtime surge may not be over quite yet," Jenkins noted. "The highest prices of the year can arrive anytime between now and Memorial Day weekend."

That price jump is higher than every other state in the past week except for Kentucky (16 cents). Florida does lead the country for the largest monthly increase (39 cents), according to AAA.

Reduced refinery output and seasonal maintenance played a role in the price increase, as did the switch to summer blend and tourists visiting for events like Bike Week, Spring Break and baseball spring training, per Jenkins.

AAA stats show the current Florida average is 10 cents higher than at this point a year ago.

West Palm Beach-Boca Raton ($2.76), Fort Lauderdale ($2.70) and Port St. Lucie ($2.70) have the highest regular average price in Florida by metro area, while Pensacola ($2.48), Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($2.53) and Tallahassee ($2.53) have the lowest.

AAA's current gas price average in the United States is $2.54, seven cents more than a week ago and 23 cents more than last month.
