Flagler County, FL - A previous 7th Judicial Circuit judge for Flagler County has passed away. Judge Kim C. Hammond served the County as a circuit judge for over 30 years, which accounted for most of his judicial career. He died on July 16 in hospice care at the age of 72. He left behind three children, 8 grandchildren and his wife, Jan. Judge Hammond was born in Miami but he grew up in Melbourne. He went to Florida State University for his bachelor's and a law degree. There, he became an All-American quarterback. Eventually, Hammond played professionally with the Miami Dolphins and the Patriots during his law degree. In 1972, Hammond passed the Florida Bar and soon after, began his private practice in Daytona Beach. In 1979, Hammond was appointed to the bench where he served as Bunnell's only circuit judge and then Chief Judge on the 7th Circuit until January 3, 2011, when he retired. In 2007, the new County courthouse in Bunnell was named after him. During his life, Hammond was also a member of several Florida court committees, served with the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges and taught at the Florida Judicial College. He was also actively involved with the United Way, Boy Scouts, Daytona Beach Community College Foundation, Florida Special Olympics and First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach. “Judge Hammond was a beloved judge in the Seventh Judicial Circuit," says current Chief Judge Raul A. Zambrano. "He was the ultimate statesman and was revered by his colleagues on the bench. He will be missed - but will always be remembered as a true Seminole.”
