87-Year-Old Hurt In DeLand Burglary Dies

DeLand, FL-Deputies say the 87-year-old man hurt during a burglary at his DeLand home earlier this month has died of his injuries. The hunt for a suspect continues. Carl Husfeld was hit in the face by a door in a struggle with the suspect when he confronted the burglar who was entering his home the morning of December 8 at 12 Oak Circle. The confrontation happened just before 7 AM. The suspect hit Husfeld and then fled. Husfeld was able to tell investigators the suspect was short, stocky and wore dark clothing. Husfeld was hospitalized at Florida Hospital DeLand and then taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for treatment of fractures to bones in his face and head. He was later listed in critical condition and died Thursday after being removed from life support.
