An 84-year-old Palm Coast woman is dead following a wreck involving two vehicles that occurred Wednesday night.
The crash occurred around 5:06 PM on Wednesday around the intersection of Old Kings Rd. and Utility Dr. in Palm Coast. According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports, 27-year-old Jessica Shank, of Palm Coast, was driving a white Chevy Equinox westbound on Utility Dr. The 84-year-old woman was driving a red Nissan Altima northbound on Old Kings Rd., and she had one passenger.
Shank attempted to make a left-hand turn to go south on Old Kings Rd., and the front of the Nissan collided with the front driver’s side of the Chevy, according to FHP. The Nissan rotated counterclockwise and stopped across the northbound and southbound lanes of Old Kings Rd. The Chevy stopped partially in the southbound lane and the grassy shoulder of the road.
Shank and the passenger in the Nissan were both taken to the hospital and suffered minor injuries. The 84-year-old woman was pronounced dead at Halifax Health. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of next-of-kin.
Shank and the passenger in the Nissan were wearing seatbelts, but the 84-year-old woman was not. FHP says alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
