Oak Hill, FL - An 81-year-old female passenger and a dog were killed in single-vehicle wreck near Oak Hill when the driver veered off the side of the road and hit a tree. The crash occurred on I-95 at Mile Marker 234 near Oak Hill at around 8:25 AM on Monday. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says 77-year-old Jerry Hershman, of Michigan, was driving the vehicle, a 2008 Chevy pickup truck. The passenger, Carolyn Perry, was also from Michigan. As the vehicle was traveling northbound on I-95, it veered off the road for an unknown reason, hitting a tree on the right side of the road. Crash reports say that Perry died at the scene. Hershman was taken to Halifax Health in Daytona and suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the crash. FHP says the crash remains under investigation. Photo courtesy Karin Hildebrand Lau and Shutterstock.com Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2018.
