80-Year-Old Ormond Woman Killed While Riding Her Bike, Struck By Motorist

Daytona Beach, FL – An 80-year old Ormond Beach woman was killed Friday morning while she was riding her bicycle in Daytona Beach and was struck by a driver.

The crash occurred at around 3 AM Friday along Clyde Morris Blvd. near Strickland Range Rd., according to Daytona Beach Police. Ruth Travers was riding her bike northbound on Clyde Morris Blvd. in the inside lane. A woman was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz northbound along the same road at the same time.

It was raining, and the Mercedes hit Travers, killing her instantly, police say. The driver did not appear to be impaired, and she reported that she could not see Travers on the roadway. Travers’s next-of-kin has been notified, and there are no criminal charges in this case.
