Palm Coast Woman Holds Uber Driver At Gunpoint

Palm Coast, FL - A Palm Coast woman is in the Flagler County Jail, charged with two felonies against an Uber driver.  The Flagler County Sheriff's Office report states that 44-year-old Betty Jo Halter ordered an Uber to pick her up at a storage facility located on State Road 100 in Bunnell Wednesday afternoon. The driver reported that Halter started loading the car with items from a storage unit and then got into the front passenger seat with her service dog. The driver told her to take her things and get out of the car.  That's when Halter pulled a black handgun from a pink bag and told the driver she wasn't "afraid to use it."  Halter then made the driver drive around different neighborhoods, saying she was "looking for Michael." She also told the driver to turn off her phone so she couldn't be tracked. They ended up at a house in the first block of Eric Place in Palm Coast.  Halter told the driver to go around to the back of the house.  Halter removed her items and put them on the porch.  She got back into the car and told the driver to go back to the front of the house.  A black Lexus pulled into the driveway.  Halter told the driver to drive away while she hid on the passenger floorboard. The driver was then told to park on a street behind the house on Eric Place.  Halter got out of the car and was walking around without offering to pay the fare.  The driver seized her chance, putting Halter's items, including the service dog, on the roadway.  The driver then sped off and called 9-1-1. Deputies went to Halter's listed address on Eric Place. Upon questioning, Halter made inconsistent statements about what had happened and talked in a nonsensical manner. Halter was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.  Those are both felonies. No bond has been set.
