Daytona Beach, FL - 2 Seabreeze High School students were arrested on Monday after another student became concerned about the possibility that 1 of the students might have a firearm on campus.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, a female student received a text message from a male student to let her know that 1 of the suspects had a gun and was planning on "raiding a hotel." She decided to reveal the information and arrests were made on Monday, March 27.

"A school official, at first, thought maybe weapons were on campus, but the weapons were not on campus, they were actually at the home of 1 of the suspects under his bed," said Lyda Longa, Media Specialist and Public Information Officer for the DBPD. "They did find some loaded magazines and rounds."

Investigators were informed by a school official that he had located part of an AR-15, 2 30-round magazines, 1 10-round magazine and 29 12-gauge shotgun rounds in a green backpack belonging to 1 of the suspects.

1 of the suspects told investigators he had taken his father's disassembled AR-15 and shotgun and magazines and placed them in a red pillow case. He then met a 2nd suspect and gave him the items.

The 2 planned to go to the La Playa hotel, 2500 N. Atlantic Ave., and steal television sets.

School officials and police acted swiftly once the information was received in order to identify and make contact with the suspects.

Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the juvenile detention center where they remain in custody.
