Port Orange, FL – Two people are hurt after a plane crash this afternoon at the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community in Port Orange.

The call for help came around 1:45 p.m. near the intersection of Cessna and Beech boulevards, located just south of the runway, according to Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant.

"A 911 caller told dispatchers the plane, a single-engine aircraft, had crashed in the area of the runway and had burst into flames," Gant added. "He said witnesses were working to pull the occupants out of the plane."

61-year-old John Wilson of Port Orange - the pilot of the yet-to-be-identified plane - was airlifted in critical condition to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Other paramedics took 35-year-old Matthew Simmons of Port Orange - the passenger on board - to Halifax Health Medical Center with injuries which aren't life-threatening, per Gant.

"Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration were notified of the crash," Gant noted. "The Sheriff’s Office does not have additional information to release at this time on the cause or circumstances."

This comes less than two months after a fatal crash at the Fly-In.
