13-Year-Old Galaxy MS Student In Deltona Arrested For School Threat

Deltona, FL - 13-year-old student at Galaxy Middle School in Deltona has become the sixth student since February 16 to face criminal charges from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) after officials say he made a threat against the school on Monday. VCSO says that the 13-year-old became angry with his teacher and then stood up in front of the class and said, "I am going to bring out my Glock and shoot everyone.” The student allegedly made gestures with his hands mimicking holding a firearm and made shooting sound effects, pretending to point the imaginary weapon at his classmates. When a school resource deputy responded and questioned the student, the 13-year-old told the deputy that the threat was only a joke and that he didn't have any access to weapons. The student was charged with a felony for making a false report concerning the use of a firearm and a misdemeanor for the disruption of a school function. According to VCSO, the Sheriff's Office also had an increased presence at Galaxy Middle School on Monday due to an unrelated social media post over the weekend. The social media post, which was determined to be unfounded and false, claimed that law enforcement had warned students to stay home from school over the weekend due to rumored threats of a shooting at the school. "Volusia County Sheriff’s Office continues to show zero tolerance for threats and jokes regarding shootings, bombings, and other acts of violence. Those who continue to make such statements may face the appropriate criminal charges," VCSO said in a news release on Monday. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2018.
