Deltona, FLUpdate: The 11-year-old boy from Deltona who said he used a selfie stick to fend off a clown that was trying to grab him has admitted that the incident never actually happened. In a social media post, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office wrote, "We are closing this out as unfounded. The advice against scaring/chasing children stands, but in this case: It didn't happen." Earlier Reporting: An 11-year-old boy in Deltona says he used a selfie stick to fend off a clown that he says tried to jump out and grab him. The incident occurred on Friday, October 13 on Howland Blvd. near Pine Ridge High School. The boy was riding his bike when a clown jumped out from behind a light pole and bushes, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO). The boy described the clown as 5 feet 9 inches and about 230 pounds. The clown had blue clown hair, a rainbow painted face, a long-sleeved shirt, and black boots. The boy told deputies the clown jumped out and tried to grab him, although the clown was not able to make physical contact. That's when the boy grabbed a metal selfie stick and hit the clown multiple times. The clown chased the boy for a short time, but then tripped and fell to the ground. The clown then ran off into the bushes, and the boy rode off to school. The boy told a crossing guard and teachers what had happened. VCSO issued a warning on social media to anyone considering pulling clown pranks around Halloween. The statement reads, "Warning to evil clowns and anyone considering creepy clown activity: We will not be there to save you if your intended target defends himself or herself, and you may face other penalties as well."
