FHP: 1 Man Dead After Being Hit From Behind By Van In Volusia County

Volusia County, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that a man is dead after his motorcycle was hit from behind by a van in Volusia County.

According to the FHP, at 10:35 PM, March 16, the man was driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a 2015 Toyota van driven by Kathy Hutchinson, 52, Walton, Kentucky. Walton did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

FHP reports, both vehicles were traveling westbound on I-4, approaching mile marker 128, in the right through lane. Hutchinson’s van was traveling behind the motorcycle, which she said appeared to be stopped in the roadway with dim lights. Hutchinson said she did not observe them in time to stop and she struck the rear of the motorcycle. Both vehicles traveled onto the westbound shoulder of I-4.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The driver of the motorcycle has not been named, pending notification of family.
