Deltona, FL - A couple that was trying to sell puppies through Craigslist were almost the victims of a robbery after a woman tried to steal one of their animals with a taser.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office says the Deltona couple were selling five Australian Shepherd puppies on Saturday (June 20th) for about $1,200 each. The couple told deputies that they made contact with the suspect, 58-year-old Sally Schweitzer, after she messaged them through Craigslist.
Schweitzer reportedly arrived at the Gretna Drive home around 3:30, which is when their contact began. Both Schweitzer and the husband began a conversation that lasted about 90 minutes, which ended with the husband telling her that she either buys a puppy or leaves.
According to Schweitzer's narrative, she had very little money and attempted to talk him down on the price. However, that story was soon recanted by Schweitzer, who later admitted that she arrived at the home with no money to take a puppy.
As the conversation continued, Schweitzer reportedly told the couple that she was taking a puppy and that they need to go inside or she would "have to take them down."
After that, Schweitzer lunged at both of them with a taser. The husband grabbed her arms and pushed her out of the garage before they called 911. Schweitzer left after she was ejected from the property.
Deputies were able to find her near Fort Smith Boulevard, where a traffic stop was initiated. After arresting Schweitzer, the couple showed up and confirmed her identity with law enforcement.
A search of Schweitzer's car and belongings yielded a pink taser, which was still switched on, and a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun. Deputies report that Schweitzer does not have a concealed weapons permit.
She was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon. Schweitzer remains in custody.
