Daytona Beach, FL - Multiple engines from the Daytona Beach and Daytona Beach Shores Fire Departments were called to the scene of a massive house fire in Daytona Beach on Saturday which claimed the life of a man and his two Dalmatians.
The deceased and his wife were inside the two-story home at 524 Ocean Dunes Rd. when the fire started. The woman was able to get out on her own, but she wasn't able to get her bedridden husband out. Firefighters were able to rescue and carry him out of the burning house, but despite life-saving efforts during transport he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two dogs inside the home weren't able to get out and died in the blaze.
It took firefighters more than two hours to extinguish the fire. According to officials, the roof collapsed and the interior of the home was completely damaged and is now unlivable. The State Fire Marshal is investigating to determine the cause of the fire and where it started.
