Port Orange, FL - After the news broke that a Volusia County council member will not seek reelection, one Port Orange city commissioner announced that he's looking to run for her spot.

Chase Tramont, who currently represents District 2 of Port Orange, announced on the Marc Bernier Show Friday afternoon (April 16th) that he is looking to run for the District 2 Volusia County councilmember spot. This comes after the current District 2 councilmember, Billie Wheeler, announced that she will not seek reelection come 2022.

"We were certainly looking at this possibility in 2024 when she was going to be termed out," said Tramont. "When she brought this up in conversation it certainly got our wheels spinning a bit."

Wheeler has been the District 2 representative for Volusia County since 2017. Before that, Wheeler served on the Daytona Beach Shores City Council. In 2020, Wheeler beat out Danny Fuqua during the general election to keep her spot on the county council. That year also brought the additions of Jeff Brower and Danny Robins, who replaced the now former Volusia County Chair Ed Kelley and District 3 Representative Deb Denys, respectively.

Tramont was also elected to his position in 2016, and was reelected in 2018. Tramont has also been a member of the First Step Shelter Board since 2018. While on the board with First Step Shelter, Tramont supported the creation of the shelter's "Safe Zone," which was nearing completion in September 2020.

"I expect my campaign to be relatively quiet over the next 9 months," said Tramont. "I plan to be knocking on doors."
