Volusia County, FL - The Volusia County Sherriff's Office (VCSO) is expanding it's twice-a-month crime strategy meetings to cover all of the west side of the county.
These meeting are called CompStat meetings which brings together crime information from several databases to compile into one crime map. This technology allows the VCSO to fight crime by being able to follow trends.
Then Police Chief Mike Chitwood introduced these meetings in Daytona Beach. Chitwood brought them to the VSCO on April 13 as Sheriff where he discussed crimes in Deltona. Meeting are held every two weeks.
Meeting are open to the public and residents are encouraged to come to learn more about crime in their area and how law enforcement is combating it.
"While the meeting will be in Deltona, the information that’s presented should be of interest to anyone on the west side of the county who wants to stay plugged in to what’s happening and take an active role in the public safety of our community,” says Sheriff Chitwood.
“These CompStat meetings help us develop policing strategies and direct our resources in a way that best meets the community’s needs. And we can’t do that without the public’s input.”
The next meting is May 11 at 8:30 AM at Deltona City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd. It will cover crime in Deltona, DeBary and unincorporated areas of Northwest Volusia. Refreshments are available and you are encouraged to ask questions of law enforcement including Sheriff Chitwood.
