Florida - In response to below-average rainfall, all 18 counties in the St. Johns River Water Management District, which includes Volusia and Flagler Counties, are now under a Water Shortage Warning Order.
"Water conservation is at the core of our mission and right now we need all hands on deck to secure our water supply during this drought," said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. "The prospect of prolonged drought is a reminder that we must work together. Everyone has the power to take action and help ensure we use water wisely to safeguard future supplies."
All residents are being encouraged to reduce their water usage and to conserve water as much as possible. Landscape irrigation should be cut down to 2 days a week and only before 10 AM or after 4 PM. It's also recommended that residents hold off on any new planting until summer rains return.
The district also enacted a burn ban in April for all district-owned properties due to dry conditions.
