Volusia Division of Corrections Holding Job Fair To Hire New Officers

Volusia County, FL – The Volusia County Division of Corrections is holding a job fair for individuals interested in a career in corrections and public protection.

On Wednesday, April 12, from 1 to 4:30 PM, the job fair will be hosted at the Volusia County Branch Jail, 1300 Red John Dr., Daytona Beach.

Individuals who plan to attend the job fair should:

  • Be 19 years old or older
  • Be in good health
  • Be tobacco-free
  • Have a valid Florida driver’s license
  • Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Have no felonies
  • Have no misdemeanors for perjury or moral character

“Corrections is a critical component of the justice system,” says the interim director of the Volusia Division of Corrections, Mark Flowers. “A career in corrections requires dedication, integrity and a commitment to supervising individuals who enter the justice system. The rewards can be gratifying as you help people make real life changes and turn their lives around.”

Individuals who attend will have the opportunity to fill out a job application, meet with staff, go on a tour of the jail and learn more about the job itself. Attendees will also learn about the benefits of the job, such as enrollment in the Florida Retirement System. Job applications can also be submitted online here.

Training to become a corrections officer (CO) will be 420 hours, and trainees will earn $14.62/hour. Once an individual becomes a certified CO, they will be paid $16.18/hour. The training includes lessons on defensive maneuvers, how to properly use a gun, how to be prepared for any emergency, interpersonal communication skills, how to first respond, legal issues, and other correctional related situations.
