The Volusia County government announced on Wednesday that it would be facilitating free transportation to voting locations to registered voters with practical barriers keeping them from getting there themselves. The service will be operated through the Volusia County Transit Services Division and its various Votran routes.
Those using Votran's fixed-route transit need only to bring a Volusia County voter identification card in order to use the service free of charge. Polling places won't be added as direct stops unless they already are, and so passengers should find out in advance which stops are closest to their voting location.
Users of Votran Gold Service, the county's transit for disabled residents, are able to take advantage of free trips that go directly to the polling places. Those that use the service are asked to schedule their rides by Monday, November 4th at noon at the latest by dialing (386) 322-5100.
Lastly, users of the curb-pickup rideshare service VoRide will also be able to take advantage of free transportation on election day. The service applies to residents in DeBary, DeLand, Deltona, Orange City, and some of the nearby area. Those riders will be given a promotional code on Monday for riders to enter. Like normal Votran riders, both Gold Service and VoRide users will need to show their Volusia voter IDs in order to skip the fare.
