Volusia Councilman Danny Robins Apologizes for Handicap Parking Infraction

Posted

Danny Robins, the Volusia County Council member representing District 3, scooped local news outlets this weekend when he fessed up to a handicap parking ticket on his social media account. Robins admitted on Facebook that he'd parked his Dodge Ram pickup truck, accidentally by his word, in a handicap spot before launching his boat for the morning.

The infraction occurred on Saturday, when Robins said he and his son woke up early to launch their boat into the Indian River in New Smyrna Beach. Their launch point was on the west side of the river near the Buena Vista Shores neighborhood.

"Upon returning to my vehicle I noticed I had mistakenly parked in a handicapped truck and trailer space in the parking lot and I had a citation on my door," Robins said. The ticket had been issued at 9:42 am, citing him for $250, or $500 if he didn't pay by September 29th.

"I am sorry for anyone that I may have inconvenienced or created a hardship for," Robins said. "Thank you to New Smyrna Beach for your thoroughness and attention to detail. Keep up the good work."

Comments were a mixture of skepticism of Robins' account and praise for his confession. "Another corrupt politician thought the rules didn't apply to them and got caught," one response said. Others weren't as harsh. "We all make mistakes," another commenter said. "Owning them instead [of] making excuses is what makes the difference."
