Vince Carter to Appear at Jackie Robinson Ballpark

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Vince Carter, NBA superstar and Daytona Beach local, is slated to make an appearance at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The retired dribbler will be available for autographs in the hour leading up to the beginning of the day's ball game.

The event details are as follows:

  • Location: Jackie Robinson Ballpark (105 East Orange Ave)
  • Date: Friday, July 21st
  • Doors: 5:30 pm
  • Autograph session: 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
  • First pitch: 6:35 pm

Carter's appearance is sure to be a hit with the community, who have long embraced him as one of the greatest athletes to emerge from the region. Carter is a graduate of Mainland High School, where he attended until going to play NCAA basketball at the University of North Carolina.

After college, Carter was drafted fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors, who immediately traded him to the Toronto Raptors. Carter stuck with Toronto from 1998 to 2004, when he was traded to the New Jersey Nets.

In his NBA career Carter would later play for the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks. His retirement in 2020 gave him the distinction of the longest career in NBA history.

In addition to his playing career, Carter has long made his presence felt in Volusia County. The popular Vince Carter's restaurant operated on LPGA Blvd in Daytona from 2010 to 2017, and Mainland has received donations in his name. Carter also founded The Embassy of Hope, a nonprofit which aids less fortunate families, and created the Vince Carter Sanctuary for substance abuse treatment in Flagler County.
