VCSO: Gunshot To Leg Was Self-Inflicted

UPDATE (07-31-19): VCSO has identified the man who fabricated a story about being shot when he actually shot himself as 30-year-old Colon N. Woods. VCSO has said they plan to file charges in this case.

UPDATE (07-30-19): The Volusia County Sheriff's Office now says that a man found shot in the leg in Tiger Bay admits that he shot himself.

According to VCSO, the 30-year-old man, who still remains unidentified, called the Volusia County Communications Center to report he was shot in the leg. His location was at Bear Island and Gopher Ridge Roads.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to rescue the man and look for the supposed shooter. Rescuers tracking through the woods were assisted by VCSO's Air One to locate the injured man.

When he was located he was asked numerous times whether this wan an accident or self-inflicted. Later on, after units had responded from VCSO, VCSO K-9, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and EVAC Ambulance, the man admitted that he had shot himself and fabricated his story.

He was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center as a trauma alert.

The shooting remains under investigation and VCSO has said they plan to file charges.

Daytona Beach, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is hunting for a suspect after a man was found shot in the Tiger Bay Forest.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the call went out shortly before 4 p.m. today (July 30th) about a man who was shot in the leg by an unknown person out in the forest.

That victim has since been transported to Halifax Health Medical Center.
