VCSO Arrests Couple After They Fake A Car Burglary To Cover Up A Hit-&-Run

Deltona, FL - A husband and wife are in jail and facing charges after they tried to falsely convince police their truck was stolen and used in a hit-and-run crash. Garrick and Adria Gunn were arrested Tuesday when Volusia County Sheriff's deputies foiled their plan to spin their hit-and-run crash as if it was committed by a burglar who stole their vehicle. On Tuesday, June 6, there was a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of East Beresford Avenue and South Amelia Avenue in DeLand. The crash resulted in a broken traffic signal and it sent one person to the hospital. A witness of the crash told a VCSO deputy that a woman who meets the description of Adria Gunn asked for a ride away from the scene of the crash. The witness says that upon his refusal, Adria Gunn was on the phone with someone saying “Man, hurry up and come get me, ‘cause I don’t have no license.” A Florida Highway Patrol trooper found a broken-off fake nail inside the vehicle and the witness said he saw Adria Gunn wearing the same kind of nail. On June 7, Garrick Gunn reported a home burglary to police and told his insurance company that his truck was used in a crash after it was stolen while he was with Adria and family in Bunnell. Garrick showed a deputy damage to his door frame to back up his claims, but the deputy saw there was no damage to the lock or door which would indicate a break-in. Both Garrick and Adria Gunn have been charged with destroying, tampering or fabricating physical evidence, falsely reporting a crime and giving law enforcement false information. Both of the Gunns were held Tuesday on $7,000 bail each at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
