Lake Helen, FL - A manhunt is underway near Lake Helen after a Volusia County Sheriff's deputy was shot at on Sunday night while investigating a trespassing complaint.

The deputy was conducting an extra patrol after VCSO got a complaint about ongoing trespassing in a wooded area in the 2000-block of E. Kicklighter Rd. near Sand Crane Ln. The deputy was out of his patrol car investigating the complaint on foot when he was shot at. That happened around 6:45 PM on May 4.

The deputy returned fire, but it's not known if the suspect was hit. Several patrol deputies, Sheriff's K-9 units, and a Sheriff's Office helicopter were sent to the scene and police from Lake Helen and Orange City went to help with the search.

At last check, no suspect was in custody but officials say they'll keep looking until the shooter is found.
