Daytona Beach Shores, FL - Daytona Beach Shores City Council has a plan for economic development in the city. Councilman Rick Frizalone, Chair of the DBS Economic Development Council, said council members and city residents both seem excited by the plan.

During Tuesday night's meeting, all five members gave approval on the first reading of an ordinance which contains several proposals to get new businesses to open up and keep existing businesses right where they are.

During a discussion of the ordinance, Frizalone said a couple of changes were suggested. One pertains to city-owned buildings which would require a formal request for proposal from developers to find out what they're willing to pay for the property and what they want to put on the property. Council also discussed requiring the rendering, schematics, drawings, etc. for a developed project. Frizalone said they want to get resident input.

A proposal to subsidize leases for the first three years that a business is in town was changed a bit, per a suggestion from Councilman Mel Lindauer. The original idea was to give leasees 10 percent off each year for three years. Frizalone said that Lindauer suggested 10 percent the first year, 20 percent the second year and 30 percent the third year. The hope is with the subsidization increase, businesses will be encouraged to stay longer. The idea was met with great response from both the Council and residents.

The second reading of the Economic Development ordinance will be read at the Daytona Beach Shores Council meeting on July 9. Frizalone said that both the Council and the residents seem very bullish on the ordinance and he feels very confident that it will move forward.
