Two Shot Dead in Daytona Apartment on Friday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - One man and one woman were each found dead in an apartment in Daytona Beach on Friday, according to a statement from the Daytona Beach Police Department. The incident occurred in the evening, after witnesses called the DBPD about gunshots nearby.

According to police, officers were dispatched to 1400 Hancock Blvd at around 9:10 pm after gunshots inside an apartment were called in. The  apartment in question was part of The Park at Via Teano, a complex owned by Blue Roc Premier. Upon arrival, officers found a man and woman both dead inside the apartment.

After interviewing witnesses to the incident, the DBPD says the man and woman were reportedly verbally arguing outside, drawing the attention of some of their neighbors. The two took their conversation in the apartment, and witnesses say it seemed to escalate from there. At some point, multiple gunshots were heard before the scene went silent.

Police say no other suspects are believed to be at large, and so the public is not considered to be at risk from the incident. They called the shooting a murder-suicide, but did not clarify whether it was the man or the woman who allegedly carried out the crime. Also unclear as of early Saturday morning is the precise relationship between the two individuals.

The area is still under investigation, and more information will likely be released by the DBPD over the coming days and weeks.
