DeLand, FL - Two young adults on juvenile probation were arrested by Volusia County deputies after deputies say they robbed a juvenile at gunpoint.

A report from the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) says the two suspects, Javontea Ross and Kenyonte Grimes, both 18, arranged to meet the victim at 3:30 Tuesday (June 22) afternoon at the park to buy $20 worth of marijuana.

The victim told deputies that he and his girlfriend, also a juvenile, were seated at a bench when they were approached by Ross and Grimes. According to the victim's narrative, he stood up to approach the pair when one of them pulled out a handgun and demanded the victim's gold chain, which is reportedly worth $3,000.

After the victim complied and gave up his gold chain, Ross and Grimes fled the scene towards Delaware Avenue. Deputies later tracked the duo to a home on South Delaware, where they were found hiding in a shed. Both Ross and Grimes gave up without incident.

Both men were arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft and child abuse. Grimes is facing an additional charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

Per the sheriff's office, both defendants remain on juvenile probation for previous crimes, despite both of them being adults. Ross is on juvenile probation for robbery and burglary while Grimes is on juvenile probation for carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm by a juvenile delinquent.

Both Ross and Grimes remain in custody without bond until they make their first appearance in court. According to court records, both men were scheduled to make their first appearance Wednesday afternoon (June 23).
