Daytona Beach, FL - Despite JetBlue leaving next month, passenger traffic keeps on climbing at Daytona Beach International Airport.
November's numbers show an over 11% jump compared to the same month last year, according to new data from the county-run airport.
62,807 passengers flew in or out of the county-operated airport last month, over 6,000 more than during the same month in 2017 (56,512).
It's the tenth straight month of passenger traffic increases at DBIA, per Airport Business Development Director Jay Cassens, and he hopes that continues with JetBlue ending its direct flights to New York City's Kennedy Airport on January 7th.
"To have this kind of increase is just absolutely phenomenal," Cassens added.
DBIA Director Rick Karl credits the continuing surge to Delta Air Lines and American Airlines using bigger planes.
"We anticipate similar numbers in December," Karl noted.
Even though American will offer weekend service to NYC's LaGuardia Airport in May, both Karl and Cassens expect traffic numbers to go down in 2019 since JetBlue currently makes up around 12% of the airport's traffic.
"Overall, it has been a great year for growth at the airport," Karl stated. "[DBIA is] up 79% in passenger traffic since 2009 [with] three new route announcements."
Two new air carriers - Silver and Sunwing - will fly directly into DBIA starting next month, with Silver offering service to Fort Lauderdale and Sunwing doing the same to Toronto.
Year-over-year traffic has gone up 5.3%, with 759,412 passengers going through DBIA in the past 12 months compared to 721,136 last year.
